Frequently Asked Questions

What can I drop off for an inmate?

  • Up to five (5) photographs (Note: Polaroids are NOT acceptable).
  • Up to three (3) magazines (Adult magazines are accepted, but content should be limited to non-penetration photography).
  • Up to three (3) paperback books.
  • Two (2) newspapers daily.
  • Money (Inmates may purchase food, cosmetics, and other items from the commissary, up to $80 per week. Commissary orders are placed Sunday morning and delivered on Monday or Tuesday).
  • Three (3) white pairs of underwear, socks, or t-shirts (must be new, in unopened retail packaging).
  • One (1) thermal undershirt (white or off-white, unopened retail package).

All acceptable property should have the inmate's name clearly written on it. For publications, the name should be on the outer cover or, if necessary, on the inside front page. Photos should be marked on the back.

Note: No messages should be written on any dropped-off item. Messages are considered correspondence and must be mailed. No exceptions!

How many people can visit an inmate during the scheduled time?

Up to three (3) people, including children and infants.

Is there an age limit to visit an inmate?

Yes. Per NYS Minimum Standards, only persons 18 years of age or older may visit an inmate. If someone under 18 wishes to visit, they must be accompanied by their parent or legal guardian, who must remain during the entire visit. No exceptions.

What kind of ID is required to visit an inmate?

You must produce a government-issued photo ID with your correct date of birth at every appointment (e.g., a state driver's license, identification card, or a valid picture ID with a birth certificate).

How are visitation appointments made?

Appointments can be made in person with the jail officer or by calling (585) 343-0838. Please have the names of all individuals planning to visit, a daytime phone number, and an approximate time and day you'd like to visit.

Note: Avoid calling between 6:45 AM - 7:15 AM, 2:45 PM - 3:15 PM, and 10:45 PM - 11:00 PM.

When can I schedule an appointment for the next week?

Visits are scheduled two weeks in advance. The next week will open for scheduling on Saturdays at 7:00 AM.

What is allowed inside the visitation area?

Only your clothes. No provocative clothing, no items in pockets, no hats, bandannas, jackets, food, drinks, gum, or candy. The jail provides lockers and plastic containers for visitor items. Each visitor is subject to search.

What happens if I bring in contraband?

If you attempt to bring contraband into the jail, you will be subject to a formal investigation and possible criminal charges.
