9-1-1 Address Verification

Policy:

It shall be the policy of Genesee County to verify all new 9-1-1 addresses. The Genesee County Sheriff’s Office Communications Division will be responsible for collecting and verifying coordinates. The Genesee County Planning Department will be the primary department for maintaining the associated Geographic Information System (GIS) databases. The Genesee County Information Technology Department will be the primary department to maintain the software and hardware supporting the GIS databases. Participating municipalities will be the primary point of contact for residents or businesses requesting 9-1-1 Address Verification.

Procedure:

  1. The participating municipality will forward all new and change address requests to Genesee County Sheriff’s Office Communication Division for 9-1-1 Address Verification.
  2. The participating municipality will use the 9-1-1 Address Verification Form(PDF, 124KB)  and send the form to the Genesee County Sheriff’s Office Communications Division using either method below:

    2. Mail: Genesee County Sheriff’s Office Communications, 165 Park Road, Batavia, NY, 14020
  3. The Genesee County Sheriff’s Office Communications Division will verify a 9-1-1 Address using GPS equipment. If an address is requested, the address will be sent to the participating municipality’s contact listed on the 9-1-1 Address Verification Form.
  4. The Genesee County Planning Department will update the GIS Database upon notification from the Genesee County Sheriff’s Office Communications Division of changes.
  5. The Genesee County Sheriff’s Office Communications Division will update its Computer Aided Dispatch Software, at minimum, every month to ensure the Address Points Layer is current.
  6. Any GPS or GIS software or hardware issues will be submitted to the Genesee County Information and Technology Department via the Help Desk.
