In honor of Veterans Day, Genesee County offices will be closed on 11/11/24. We salute and express our deep gratitude to all veterans who have served our country.
Long-term care refers to medical and non-medical services that assist disabled children, adults, and the elderly who cannot manage daily activities independently. This care includes help with dressing, eating, bathing, and care for serious illnesses like Alzheimer’s. It also supports recovery and maintaining independence.
Long-term care is for people of all ages with various needs:
Chronic Disease or Disability: Individuals with conditions like Alzheimer’s or Cerebral Palsy may require long-term care to live as independently as possible.
Behavioral Health: Those with mental health issues or developmental disabilities often need ongoing services.
Acute Illness or Injury: People recovering from strokes or accidents may need temporary assistance.
Aging: Seniors may need help to maintain their independence.
Long-term care services are available in various settings:
In your community
In your home
In residential settings
In nursing homes
Long-term care insurance covers services not typically included by Medicare, Medigap, or traditional health insurance. For more information, visit the Center for Medicare Education: Understanding Long-Term Care Insurance.
