How to get your passport application process started at the County Clerk’s Office:

You can apply for your passport at the Genesee County Clerk’s office. Obtain an application in person at our office, online at www.travel.state.gov, or by bringing all required items on the checklist (proof of citizenship, proof of identity, and two passport photos). Passport photos are available at our office for a fee of $10.

Applying for the first time: It is recommended to apply at least 3 months before your planned trip. Passport applications are typically processed in 10 to 13 weeks. When applying for the first time, submit your application in person. Complete Form DS-11 (unsigned) and sign it in person at our office with all supporting documents.

Need a Passport in a Hurry? Request expedited processing for an additional $60. Applications are usually processed within 7 to 9 weeks from the application date. Include a $19.53 payment for 1 to 2 day return delivery service with your passport fee to the Department of State.

At the County Clerk’s Office: Submit your passport application and required documents to our county clerk passport agents. Passports are typically issued within 10 to 13 weeks.

  • Make copies of your passport’s identification page before travel.

  • Carry extra passport-size photos.

Before traveling, check U.S. Department of State travel warnings at www.travel.state.gov.

For Expedited/Emergency Application: The following is a list of companies that provide assistance in expediting passport and/or visa applications. These agencies charge a fee for their services and each have their own procedures. It is necessary to pay normal passport application fees, agency fees, and use a delivery service like Express Mail or FedEx. Start by processing your application with an acceptance agent like your county clerk, who will return the documentation to you in a sealed envelope for transmission to your selected service agency. The Genesee County Clerk provides this list without endorsing any specific service and without guaranteeing their reliability or performance.
